Ghana is a West African state located along the Gulf of Guinea. As with most African nations, football is the dominant sport in Ghana.
Their national football team, called the Black Stars, has won the African Cup of Nations four times. Ghana's Black Satellites (under-20 team) is the only African team that has won the FIFA U-20 World Cup Championships. Their U-17 football team, known as the Black Starlets, have won the FIFA U-17 World Cup twice (1991 and 1995) and were runners up in 1993 as well as 1997.
Ghana is one of a very few African countries that has participated in the Winter Olympics which they did for the first time in 2010 when Kwame Nkrumah-Acheampong qualified for slalom skiing which was held in Vancouver, Canada. Kwame Nkrumah-Acheampong was only the second black African who was able to break into the international skiing scene. Ghana is also the first African country to ever win an Olympic medal for football when their Black Meteors took the bronze in 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympic Games.
