From 1956 to 1964, even though they were a divided country, both West Germany and East Germany participated as the United Team of Germany. In 1956, Saarland was a separate country and was also included in the United Team.
At the 1956, 1960, and 1964 Games the team was simply known as 'Germany' and the usual Germany country code of GER was used. However, retrospectively the IOC has applied the country code EUA for this team.
Germans did not compete as a single nation again until the 1992 Games. See Germany at the Olympics.
