Georgia were not able to qualify for the 1987 and 1991 World Cups as they were still part of the USSR at that time. The nation's rugby team first participated at the World Cup in 2003, and has attended every tournament since. They were winless in their first appearance, and have never progressed past the pool stage in all of their appearances (including 2019).

- Georgia was part of the Soviet Union in 1987, whose national team declined an invitation to the inaugural World Cup on political grounds.
- Georgia recorded their first-ever World Cup win at the 2007 Rugby World Cup, where they beat Namibia 30–0.
