Footgolf is an outdoor field sport that can be best described as a mix of golf and association football. The objective of the sport is similar to that of golf, that involves pocketing a ball into a hole in a fixed number of attempts. But unlike golf, there are no clubs required, players have to use their football skills to kick a ball into the hole.
The course used is similar to that of a golf course, with trees bunkers and ponds. The course consists of 18 holes, each about 21 inch wide. A size 5 football is used to play the sport. A game is played for 9 or 18 holes, where each hole is given a par rating, similar to that of golf. The distance from tee to the hole in footgolf is shorter than that of golf, because an inflated ball does not carry as far a small hard golf ball does.
the gameplay is same as golf, where players start from the tee and work their way to the hole. Scoring system is the same, with Eagle (-2), Birdie (-1), Par(0), Bogey(+1), Double bogey(+2) awarded for each hole played. The player with the lowest points at the end of the game wins.
In 2017, the Federation for International FootGolf was given 'observer status' by the Global Association of International Sports Federations, paving the way for it to be considered officially a sport.
