When trying to interpret fitness testing results, it is important to have an idea of what are the relative importance of specific fitness components. To help in determining what components of fitness, such as speed, endurance, strength etc. are important for hockey, I have made this rating list survey which ran on this site a few years ago. The poll asked readers to rate the different components of fitness on a scale of one (low) to five (high). This poll is no longer online (results below), but there is a more comprehensive survey of the important factors of success in hockey, which you can add your opinions.
Apart from skill (which would be a very important ability), the relative importance of the physiological parameters listed in this table were rated differently in their contributions to making a champion hockey player.
Speed is most important
These ratings are a result of a poll which I had on this page many years ago, where I was able to ask visitors to rate each component between 1-5. I don't recall how many people responded. As you can see it is not very scientific, just people's impression of what they think is important. The higher the rating, the more important that people considered that component to achieving success in hockey. See also a recent poll about the fitness components for hockey which asked visitors to select only the most important attribute.
