The EvalDM is a new aerobic fitness test developed by Daniel Mercier, one of the authors of the original shuttle run beep test papers. The test uses a phone App (available on both Android and iPhone) and can be conducted on various fitness equipment. The test is being validated by the University of Strasbourg.
- purpose: to assess the aerobic capacity in METs, and use this information for training program design.
- equipment required: the EvalDM phone App (by Activity Lab), bluetooth heart rate monitor, fitness equipment (treadmill, stationary cycle, elliptic, rower, step etc.)
- procedure: open the app and follow the steps. The exercise part of the test is a progressive test in increments of 90 seconds with 30 second rest periods. It can be a maximal or submaximal test. The application can capture heart rate during the course of the test if it is connected to a Bluetooth heart rate sensor.
- scoring: an individual report is created, with a score given of the aerobic capacity in METs, a %MET health score, and percentile ranking (by age and sex).
- target population: for people 3 METs and up (almost everyone)
