Equestrian Hacks and Hunter Combined at the Olympic Games
The Hacks and Hunter Combined (Chevaux de Selle) competition was one of five equestrian events held at the Paris International Horse Show, part of the Exposition Universelle in 1900. The event is also called hunter hack, and also known as the "chevaux de selle" (translates to saddle horses in English), and has similarities to English pleasure or the modern dressage events.
Hacks and Hunter Combined (Chevaux de Selle)It was not until much later that some of the equestrian events from that Paris show were considered Olympic. The Hacks and Hunter Combined event has not been recognized as officially part of the 1900 Paris Olympic Games, but we have classified it as a demonstration sport alongside those events that were. The other 'equestrian demonstration' from that time was the "Mail Coach".
Competition Format
The Hacks and Hunter Combined event consisted of riders performing on the flat at a walk, trot, canter and hand gallop, as well as executing two low jumps. Competitors were scored for the quality of their routine.

- The event was won by Louis Napoléon Murat, who was the great-nephew of the Emperor Napoléon I of France.
