Liz Ellis: Netball
Elizabeth “Liz” Ellis, AM (born 17 January 1973) is a former netball player who represented the Australian national team from 1992 until 2007, captaining the last four of those years. She made her debut for the Australian netball team in July 1993 against Wales. For Australian netball, Ellis is the most capped international player.
Greatest Sporting Achievements
Liz Ellis became part of the Australian netball team and gold medalists for the World Games (1993), World Champions (1995 and 1999) and Commonwealth Games (1998 and 2002). She became National League’s MVP in 1998, Player of the Grand Final in 2001, Players’ Player of the Year and Commonwealth Bank Trophy MVP in 2002 and 2006.
Ellis captained the NSW Netball Team in 2001, Sydney Swifts in 2002 to 2007 and Australian netball team in 2004 to 2007.
She was awarded Best Player in the 2007 World Championships.
Why Was She So Good?
With four World Championship victories, two Commonwealth Games gold medals, Australian captain from 2004 to 2007, four Australian netball MVP awards and four premiership, it’s no surprise why Liz Ellis is considered a netball legend. Not only did she suffered a career-threatening knee injury in a match against New Zealand in 2005, she defied the critics by making a full recovery from a full knee reconstruction, producing some of the best netball of her career in the next two years. Ellis loved the sport so much and she was gifted with amazing skills and abilities, and she’s sharing those through her sports clinics for young athletes.

- She coaches the Liz Ellis Netball Clinics that have been running for more than 15 years.
- Liz Ellis started playing netball when she was 8 years old with the Green Hills Netball Club in the Hawkesbury Association. She continues to be a member and a club sponsor.
- When she was younger, she idolized Keeley Devery, an Australian netball representative from 1985 to 1993.
- Ellis set the record for the most games played in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy with 173.
