Some of the World's most important sporting events are no longer held. Probably the first major international sporting event, the Ancient Olympics, have been revived, however there are many that have fallen by the wayside or have been replaced.
- Women's World (Olympic) Games — an event which consisted of several competitions, similar to the Olympics, conducted only for women participants between 1922 and 1934.
- The Olympics of Grace — an international multi-sport event for women held in 1931 in Florence, Italy. The event was primarily composed of track and field events and contested by women from eleven European countries.
- Indian Empire Games — a national sporting event held in the British Indian Empire, held once in Madras in 1909. The event included athletes from all parts of the British Indian Empire.
- International Workers' Olympiads — an international sporting event held between 1925 and 1937 by Socialist Workers' Sport International (SASI). It was an alternate event for the Olympic Games for participants from various labor sports associations, mostly from Europe.
- The Inter-Allied Games — a one-off multi-sporting event held in 1919 following the end of World War I. The event was only open to participation by military personnel who were currently serving or had formerly served in the armed forces during the War.
- The Nordic Games — the first international multi-sport event that focused primarily on winter sports, held at varying intervals between 1901 and 1926. It was organized by Sweden's Central Association for the Promotion of Sports.
- Arafura Games — a multi-sport event hosted in Darwin, Australia, for nearby nations. Held from 1991 - 2011.
