Fortunately there has only been one death recorded in association with the Paralympics.
Bahman Golbarnezhad, a 48 year-old Iranian cyclist at the 2016 Rio Paralympics, died of cardiac arrest following crash.
Golbarnezhad was competing in the C4 cycling road race, and was involved in a crash on the first section of the Grumari loop, a mountainous stretch of the course. He received treatment at the scene and was in the process of being taken to the athlete hospital when he suffered a cardiac arrest.
