Curling Demonstration at the Winter Olympics
Curling has been a part of the Winter Olympics for the following years: 1924, 1932, 1988, 1992 and 1998 onwards, with just the events of 1932, 1988 and 1992 demonstration sports. For a long time the curling event at the 1924 Games was also considered a demonstration event. It was not until 2006 that the IOC decided that curling was officially part of the program and retroactively awarded medals to the 1924 curling teams.
1932 - the competition comprised 4 American teams and 4 Canadian Teams (men only). Each of the Canadian teams played against each of the American teams. The Canadian teams finished in the first three places.
1988 - men's and women's matches were played. The final standings for the men's competition was first Switzerland, followed by Canada and Norway. For the women was first Sweden, followed by Canada and Norway.
1992 - The final standings for the men's competition was first Switzerland, followed by Norway and USA. For the women was first Germany, followed by Norway and Canada.
The similar sport of ice stock sport was a demonstration event in 1936 and 1964.
