Cross-Country Skiing has been on every Winter Paralympic program since the first event in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden in 1976. The competition is open to athletes with a physical impairment and visual impairment.
Depending on functional impairment, a competitor with little or no leg functionality uses a chair equipped with a pair of skis.
Athletes with visual impairment compete with a sighted guide. There are events for male and female athletes over distances ranging from 2.5km to 20km, using classical or free techniques.
