Dan Carter: Rugby Union
Daniel William “Dan” Carter (born: 5 March 1982) is a New Zealand rugby union player. He started playing rugby at the age of 5 as a half back (scrum half) and represented Ellesmere and Canterbury County. He represented New Zealand internationally from 2003 to 2015, the Crusaders in 2003 to 2015, Canterbury in 2002 to 2015, Perpignan in 2008 to 2009 and Racing Metro in 2015. Carter attended Ellesmere College where mostly played first five-eight and during his senior year, he was transferred to Christ Church High School to further his chances of making it big in rugby.

Dan Carter received numerous awards including the Kelvin Tremain Memorial Trophy for Player of the Year, Rebel Sport Super 14 Player of the Year, IRB International Player of the Year, Rebel Sport Super 14 Player of the Year and Most Super Rugby and Test points in the world.

He was once a quiet young man who kept his inspirations to himself. Now, Carter is one of the world’s best fly-half. He possesses the complete package – excessive speed, defensive strength and hazardous side-step. He is also a consistent goal-kicker and a smart strategist.

- Dan Carter’s great uncle was Canterbury and New Zealand half back Bill Dalley, a member of the 1924-1925 Invincibles and later a Canterbury rugby administrator.
- In 2011, he married field hockey player and Black Sticks striker Honor Dillon. He has a son named Marco.
- In 2010, he became the highest point scorer of all time beating Jonny Wilkinson’s record of 1,178.
- He released his book “Dan Carter: Skills and Performance” in 2006 which include stories about his relatively brief international rugby career as well as section on skills for younger players.
- He became a spokesmodel for Daikin heat pumps and Philips electric shavers.
