Touring Car Racing

Touring Car Racing is a type of auto racing, which uses heavily modified road-going cars. The sport is popular in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Britain, Germany, Sweden and Norway. It has both similarities to and significant differences from stock car racing which is popular in the United States. Touring Car Racing has similarities to Stock Car Racing and Sports Car Racing.

Races are held on hard surfaces, over varying distances. The races can range from short "sprint" races, and more endurance type races, which last from 3 to 24 hours, and are a test of reliability and pit crews as much as car, driver speed, and consistency.

The cars used in Touring Car races are built specifically for racing. The cars start with a standard car body, but virtually every other component is modified for racing, including engines, suspension, brakes, wheels and tyres. Depending on the specific regulations, aerodynamic aids are sometimes added to the front and rear of the cars.
