Candlepin Bowling

Candlepin bowling is a type of bowling that is played mostly in the Canadian Maritime Provinces, like Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. It is also played in New England states like Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.

The lane used in candlepin bowling is almost the same as the lane used in ten pin bowling. There is a metal plate which forms the “pindeck” area for the candlepin lane.

The candlepins are around 400mm tall. It has a cylindrical shape which kind of looks like a candle. In candlepin, there is a line around 3 meters down the lane which is called the lob line. The ball must first make contact with the lane at a point on the bowler’s side. If the bowler violates this rule, it will constitute a lob, and any pins which were knocked down will not count. There is another line called dead wood line, it will define the maximum limit that any toppled pins can occupy.
