Bossaball is a sport which is similar to volleyball, and also includes elements of football, gymnastics and capoeira. Bossaball is a dynamic sport played on an inflatable court with trampolines on each side of the net. This allows the players to show off high-flying volleyball skills. At the same time, a samba playing band helps provide a fun setting.
There was a demonstration of Bossaball in Rio in 2016 "#AtTheCopa", and supporters of the sport are hoping that showcasing it to the visitors to Rio will help propel the sport to one day also be part of the Olympic Games. Beach volleyball was a demonstration sport, in 1992, then an official sport in 1996. Will the same be said for Bossaball?
A Bossaball Exhibition Cup was held during the Olympics Games in Rio, from August 10-14, 2016. The matches were played on Rio's iconic Copacabana beach. Five national teams participated: Colombia, Brazil, Belgium, Argentina and the Netherlands. The tournament was won by The Netherlands, followed by Argentina and Belgium.
