The Bigice Race is a long-distance endurance race in one of the most hostile environment on the surface of the earth, the icecap of Greenland just above the Arctic Circle. The race is divided into 8 stages between 60 and 90 km long, covering in total around 590 km on the outstanding.
It is one of the toughest of such events, as the runners have to deal with typically unpredictable weather in expanse of exposed wilderness as well as 24hr daylight. The race starts on the east coast of Greenland in Isortorq and ends on the west coast in the town of Kangelussuaq. Competitors may race solo or in teams with up to six participants.
This race was first run in 2011.
