The sport of biathlon is a combination of cross-country skiing and shooting. Biathlon was introduced to the Paralympic program in Lillehammer in 1994. The competition is open to athletes with a physical impairment and blindness/visual impairment.
The Biathlon event consists of a 7.5km route divided into three 2.5km stages. Between the two stages athletes must hit two targets located at a distance of 10 meters. Each miss is penalised by an increase in the overall route time.
