BASE jumping is a activity that involves parachuting from a structure or cliff. The word BASE is an acronym for Building, Antenna, Span, and Earth (cliff). There are BASE Numbers awarded to the participants who made one jump from the four categories: buildings, antennas, spans, and earth.
According to the Guinness World Records, the first BASE jumping record was done by Carl Boenish in 1984. He leaped from Trollveggen (Troll Wall) in Norway. That was the highest BASE jump.
Captain Daniel Schilling set a record for the most BASE jumps in 24 hours on July 8, 2006. Captain Schilling jumped off from the Prrine Bridge in Twin Falls, Idaho. He jumped 201 times.
Competitions for BASE jumping have been held since the 1980’s. In the past few years, there is a formal competition held at 1,483 feet. It is held in the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The judges score based on landing accuracy.
