Kevin Bartlett: Australian Football
Kevin Charles Bartlett AM (born 6 March 1947) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Richmond Football Club in the Victorian Football League from 1965 to 1983. He is the second player to play the highest number of games in the VFL/AFL history. Bartlett was known as “hungry” because of his unwillingness to handball.
Greatest Sporting Achievements
He was part of the 5-time VFL Premiership in 1967, 1969, 1973, 1974 and 1980 and 3-time Championship of Australia in 1969, 1973 and 1974. Kevin Bartlett became Richmond’s Best and Fairest five times and was the recipient of the Norm Smith Medal in 1980. He also became Richmond’s leading goal kicker in 1974-1975, 1977 and 1983. Bartlett was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame with a Legend Status and the Richmond Hall of Fame with an Immortal Status.
Why Was He So Good?
Kevin Bartlett is known for his immense evasiveness and endurance. He contributed to Richmond over 403 VFL games in 19 seasons. He easily combined his quick pace with dodging skills of the utmost order and was clever to maintain his flimsy frame rather free of jeopardy in the hustle and bustle cauldron of league football longer than any player.

In the AFL, Bartlett has the 2nd most games played and the 12th most goals kicked. - At Richmond, he is the player with most games played with 403 games and the 3rd most goals kicked with 778 goals.
- Bartlett became the public face of the AFL “Laws of the Game” until 4 March 2014.
- He became a host World of Sport after his playing retirement.
- In 2008, Kevin has appeared in a Toyota Memorable Moments advertisement where he was recreating seven goals from the 1980 VFL Grand Final.
- He was famous for his famous “comb-over” hairstyle.
- He was made a made a Member of the Order of Australia in 1981.
