Sport in Bahrain
Bahrain is a flourishing Middle-Eastern country. It is a beacon of entertainment and leisure for people who like adventure and the outdoors. When it comes to sports, the Bahrainis love football (soccer). As a matter of fact, they have their own domestic football league, the Bahraini Premier League. There are 10 football teams and whoever wins the double round robin set will qualify for the AFC Cup. The club that has had the most success is the Muharraq Club with 32 championships and a far second Bahrain Riffa Club.
The Bahraini traditionally like playing basketball and volleyball but further down the history, their traditional pastimes include horse riding and hunting. It is also worth mentioning the Bahrain’s love of motorsport and it is actually the Middle East’s Formula One racing premier venue. They have attended the Summer Olympics since 1984 but have never competed in the Winter Olympics. Their first medal in the Olympics was a bronze from Maryam Yusuf Jamal in the 1500 meter run in the 2012 London Olympics, and four years later their first gold was won by another African born athlete, teenager Ruth Jebet who won the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase.
