Two Hands Shot Put at the Olympic Games
The Two Hands Shot Put event is not as unusual as it sounds. Using a 16lb shot, the participants were not required to throw the implement with two hands, but throw it with each hand with the results combined.
Each thrower threw the shot put three times with his right hand, and three times with his left hand. The best distance of each hand was summed to give a total distance. The three finalists were allowed three more throws with each hand.
In 1912, the only time this event was held, there were a couple of other two handed events too: 2 hands discus and 2 hands javelin.

- Patrick McDonald (USA) 27.53 m
- Elmer Niklander (Finland) 27.14 m
The second placegetter Patrick McDonald was also the winner of the 56 lb weight toss.
