A fishing event (Angling) was an unofficial event at 1900 Olympic Games in Paris. There were a series of competitions in four separate events. It was held in August in 1900 at the River Seine, with about 600 fisherman, of whom 40 were from five countries other than France (Source Wikipedia).
The foreign teams were under the impression that the competition was about catching the biggest fish, and consequently threw the small ones back into the sea. In the end they had 17 big fish in four days, while the three French teams had a triple win with their 604+264+104 small fish. (Source: L. Brunnhage - Olympiaboken 1968, S.
