American Samoa at the Winter Olympics
An unincorporated territory of the US, American Samoa first participated at the Winter Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway in 1994. The nation fielded a two man bobsleigh team composed of Faauuga Tia and Muagututia Brad Kiltz, which took the 39th place.
The country's made a grand entrance on its second appearance at the Winter Olympics, when skeleton athlete Nathan Crumpton entered the stadium shirtless on the freezing evening of the opening ceremony. He was wearing traditional American Samoa garments, in a nod to the Tongan athlete Pita Taufatofua who did a similar thing in 2018.
Crumpton will be the first American Samoa athlete to compete in both the Summer and Winter Games, after also competing in the 100m at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.
The nation hasn’t won a medal in the Olympics, either Summer or Winter.
