Afghanistan first qualified for the Cricket ODI World Cup in 2015. The team won just one of their six games played, against Scotland.
The team again qualified for the 2019 tournament, which followed their promotion to Test playing status in 2018. In that tournament, they did not win any of their nine games.
At their 3rd World Cup appearance in 2023, the ninth-ranked Afghani team had a big upset win, beating reigning champions England. It was only their second win at the ODI World Cup, and the first time they had beaten England in an ODI match.
