The World Championships for acrobatic gymnastics is the Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships, organized by the Federacion Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG).
The event is held every two years. The first Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships was in 1974, held in Moscow, Soviet Union.
Acrobatic Gymnastics is a mixture of choreography and complex acrobatic skills performed with a partner or a group.
Gymnasts work in harmony and trust, groups and partner responsible for one another. There are no apparatus involved in acrobatic gymnastics.
Acrobatics have been known for so long that it was not until the modern times that the Sport Acrobatics recognized as a competitive sport.
Dynamic and combined exercises must have a maximum duration of 2 minutes and 30 seconds. There will be penalties for exceeding.
During the Dynamic Exercise, pairs and groups must demonstrate flight from throws, pitches and catches and somersaults, while Combined Exercise pairs must present three balance elements and three dynamic elements, two individual Balance elements and two individual Dynamic elements. There will be a 1.00 penalty for each missing element. Groups, women and men are required for the Balance exercise, one group pyramid, three Dynamic elements, two individual balance elements and two dynamic elements.
These exercises are performed on a standard gymnastic floor impose on gymnasts with a need for power, liveliness, flexibility, stability and acrobatic skills.
