Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (born Ferdinand Lewis Alcindor, Jr., April 16, 1947) is a Hall of Fame basketball former center, playing twenty seasons in the NBA for the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers. He was first picked by the Milwaukee Bucks during the 1969 NBA draft. He led the Bucks to an NBA crown in 1971, same year he changed his name to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. In 1975, he was traded to the Lakers. He and Magic Johnson bought enthusiasm to the Lakers, together winning game after game.
Greatest Sporting Achievements
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is a record six-time NBA MVP, record 19-time NBA All-Star, 15-time All-NBA selection, 11-time NBA All-Defensive Team member. He continues to hold several records even after his retirement including the all-time leader in points scored (38,387); games played (1,560), minutes played (57,446), field goals made (15,837) and many more.
Abdul-Jabbar remains to be the all-time leading scorer in NBA and is ranked 3rd all-time in both rebounds and blocks.
ESPN voted him the greatest center of all time and named him the “greatest player in college basketball history” in 2007 and 2008 respectively.
In 1995, he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
