Australia had a relatively disappointing Olympic campaign in London 2012, with the swimmers not winning as many gold as was expected. Australia sent 410 athletes, winning eight gold medals, 15 silvers, 12 bronzes - 35 overall medals.
The golden girls for Australia were hurdler Sally PearsonĀ and cyclist Anna Meares. The sailors also performed above expectations.

- Race walker Jared Tallent had to wait to receive his gold medla. Almost four years after he crossed the finish line in the men's 50km walk behind drug cheat Russian Sergey Kirdyapkin, Tallent was presented with his gold medal at a ceremony in Melbourne.
