The 1976 Paralympic Winter Games were held in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden. It was the first Winter Paralympic Games, known at the time as the 1st Winter Olympic Games for the Disabled.
Events were held in Alpine skiing and Cross-country skiing, for amputee and visually impaired athletes. There was also a demonstration ice sledge racing. A total of 16 countries and 196 athletes took part.
West Germany finished on top of the overall medal table, winning a total of 28 medals, including 10 golds. Finland was second, also with 10 gold medals.
