- Swimmer Shane Gould holds the record for the most medals at a single Olympic Games for an Australian: 5 medals in total - 3 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze. She shares this record with fellow swimmer Ian Thorpe who also won five medals in 2000 in Sydney.
